As a Berlin-based media artist and filmmaker I am interested in exploring new ways of narrative and shape them to immersive, sensory installations. I like to experiment with XR, where grammar is not established yet and much scope for experimentation to be found. Throughout all my work, animation always serves as a tool to inject a surreal element and bring fine art practice such as drawing and painting into the filmic experience. My training as a set designer helps me to design the stage for these moments of distorted reality to take place.
One of my main themes as a media artist is bio globalisation. For the proposed work titled „Seed wisdom“, I want to look deeper into the sharing of knowledge and stories through seeds. "SEEDS ARE THE SHAREABLE FILE OF THE FOOD SYSTEM". Seeds store decades of knowledge passed down through generations and communities that have produced, bred and shared seeds. Families and indigenous farmers cultivated this knowledge by passing on recipes, practices, rituals and stories. Women used seeds as nutrients – they ate them, grew them, used them as medicine and even as art. Seeds are widely used in textiles, where they were made into multicoloured threads in the collective process of knitting in communities. Recent changes in the way seeds are produced, bred and exchanged have led to a great loss of biodiversity, cultural activity and the wisdom associated with it.
I would like to take up this issue in my project "Seed wisdom". During my residency, I want to design a "seed house" in VR to collect seeds and their stories. The seed house would be a container, an almanac, that would house the stories of different seeds. The storytellers would be the seeds themselves. The way the stories of Quinoa, Lotus and Lykov Rye etc. are told can be as fantastic as possible, movement plays an important role. I have often worked with dancers in past projects. Again, I would like to transfer expressive movement to my seed avatars using Plask AI to give the seeds more personality.
As the time frame of the residency is limited to one month, I would focus on developing a prototype for the seed house and the possible interactions with a selection of seeds and their associated stories.
So far, I have created my AR and VR applications primarily in Unity, but I have also had my first experiences with Unreal and would be happy to expand my knowledge in this field.
